Hey ho, Jeremiah!

TAKE a glance at Jeremiah Rukong and you would not believe that this bodybuilder could gobble up a dozen mooncakes at one go.

    “I just love them. Every time the (mooncake) festival approaches, I would go out hunting these treats, especially those with the salted egg’s yolk filling,” says the 37-year-old medical laboratory technologist.

     Jeremiah first entered the sport in 1998, during his college days. His first competition was Mr Junior Sarawak 2000, where he placed first runner-up.

TRIVIA

➧Jeremiah says he is inspired by Hungarian bodybuilder Peter Molnar.

➧He can play the guitar quite well – his favourite tune is Extreme’s ‘More Than Words’.

➧He once worked part-time as a bartender, when he was 19. He stayed on mixing drinks at a restaurant in Kuching City for two years. “I was quite good at it too,” he quips.

➧Jeremiah loves cooking. His favourite dish? Spaghetti...!

➧He also plays wicked table tennis and has some martial art skills.

➧His lecturer brought him to the gym in 1998 – marking his entry in bodybuilding.

Well-seasoned, indeed

Veteran bodybuilder to turn 50 soon, and he's still turning heads

Meet Nolan Chee Chean Syze, our seasoned muscleman who hails from Kuching, Sarawak. Initially, Nolan took up swimming during his secondary schooldays before going into bodybuilding in 1983.

Thereon, he never looked back. His maiden win was the Novice title in Mr Kuching 1986 before proceeding to become back-to-back champion in the division-level competition from 1990 to 2008 — also the year when he clinched the overall Mr Sarawak championship crown.

He then took a four-year hiatus before returning to the Mr Sarawak stage in 2013 and won the Masters title.

At the time, he was already 46 years old. This October 18, he will turn 50.

Still, his physique is still way better than most men half his age, wouldn't you agree?

"I still consider myself a late bloomer, but I view this in a positive light — the older a fruit gets, the sweeter it tastes, right?"
